Namibia is an attractive destination for high net worth individuals due to its business opportunities, investment potential and economic stability. The Namibian government is actively seeking foreign investment to continue to boost the economy.
Namibia does not offer a direct citizenship by investment programme. It may be possible to apply for Namibian citizenship through naturalization, however this process is very lengthy. Applicants would first need to hold residency in Namibia for ten years, then Permanent Residency (PR) for a further 10 years, making the overall timeline 20 years for citizenship. For those simply looking for a second passport investment, Caribbean countries such as Dominica offer citizenship by investment which has been hugely successful in providing international investors the chance to obtain a second citizenship within a matter of months.
Namibia offers a residency by investment programme which requires a real estate investment in an approved project called ‘The Presidents Links Estate’ – a new eco-friendly residential and golf estate development. Investors are required to purchase real estate for a minimum of $USD 316,000. This residency programme has been launched to attract foreign investment from international investors and businesses to enhance the country’s economic growth. This programme offers a renewable five year residence permit and investors can apply for permanent residency after ten years of residency.
Namibia ranks 123rd on La Vida’s comprehensive Global Passport Ranking which is a fairly low mobility score. The Namibian passport offers visa-free access to 86 countries, accounting for 22.8% of worldwide travel and 16.2% of world wealth (measured in GDP).
This ranking is significantly lower than all of the Caribbean nations offering second citizenship programmes, such as Antigua and Barbuda’s Citizenship by Investment programme which ranks 70th in La Vida’s Global Passport Ranking, and offers visa-free access to 161 countries.
