PAPUA NEW GUINEA CITIZENSHIP INVESTMENT

Currently, Papua New Guinea does not offer a formal residency or citizenship by investment (CBI) programme. However, given the success of CBI programmes in recent years such as those in several Caribbean countries, we might witness the emergence of similar initiatives in other nations. Vanuatu’s Citizenship by Investment programme is the closest option to Papua New Guinea.  Many Pacific countries share the same advantage as Vanuatu and the Caribbean islands, namely, Commonwealth membership, providing visa-free access to numerous countries. While awaiting future developments, investors currently enjoy a plethora of choices from existing programmes.

PAPUA NEW GUINEA RESIDENCY Investment

Papua New Guinea does offer a pathway to permanent residence; however, it mandates individuals to have resided in the country for five years through consistent employment. Additionally, individuals over 55 years of age, demonstrating an annual income of at least K50,000.00 and possessing a work history of at least 5 years in Papua New Guinea, are also eligible for permanent residence.

PAPUA NEW GUINEA PASSPORT STRENGTH AND RANKING

If Papua New Guinea were to introduce a citizenship by investment programme it may not be the most attractive option as its passport is ranked 121st on La Vida’s comprehensive Global Passport Ranking. The Papua New Guinea passport only provides visa-free access to only 95 countries, representing 25% of global travel and 16.6% of world wealth (measured by GDP). This places it significantly lower than established and prominent Caribbean programmes. For example, Antigua’s passport ranks 70th in La Vida’s Global Passport Ranking, and grants citizens visa-free access to 161 countries. Antigua and Barbuda’s Citizenship by Investment programme is available from $100,000, plus fees.
